Hijacked by Rainbow Nation and Mabele Mabele Habatho
Selected as a finalist for the MTN Young Contemporaries Award 2012, the collaboration between Ntsoana and Vaughn Sadie created a new work, Hijacked by Rainbow Nation and Mabele Mabele Habatho which comprised of an installation, living installation performance and video projection.
The 2 works responded to the Castle of Good Hope (Cape Town) as a site in transition and crisis. They looked at the battle which the Castle, and other national heritage sites, face in locating themselves outside of their historical legacy.
In attempts to reposition the Castle within a contemporary reality and much like similar sites, it may be perceived that they are irrelevant to their immediate inhabitants that have a complex relationship between the continuously shifting public spaces that encroach on the dominant historic legacy which defines the area.
